Hi! I'm Diana, a product designer in northern California.
I like virtually all aspects of design! First and foremost, though,
I enjoy problem-solving, and designing solutions to problems.

More about me
I like design and solving problems!
Things I've liked outside of design include making and eating dessert, video games (JRPGs and rhythm games especially), and being way too enthusiastic about Neopets (my CSS villain origin story).
I'm hoping to keep a blog here at some point but haven't gotten around to it at all. Maybe someday?
Quora: Spaces
Designing and building a community product from the ground up
For the last two years of my time at Quora I worked on Spaces, Quora's community product.
Developing Spaces was a "zero-to-one" product process;
I worked with a small team of designers and engineers, from the earliest versions of the product through and post-launch,
building out features to bring the product to maturity.
Zero-to-one / early stages
As Quora had never had a community product, we were designing the product mechanics from scratch.
We discussed questions like:
-
Identity: Should Spaces have names, bios, usernames, photos, cover photos? Which should be unique?
-
Permissions: Who should be able to post in a Space? Should Spaces be open like subreddits, closed like Facebook groups, or something else?
-
Use cases: Did we want them to feel like subreddits, blogs, newsletters? Or should the product support most use cases?
We launched the MVP with closed groups, hoping for a flexible product that could be used for communities, blogs, or anything in between.
Launch day
Post-launch, we built out many features with the intent of growing Spaces and improving the Spaces experience.
-
Running Spaces: Letting users submit content to Spaces, and have their content approved by moderators; helping admins manage submissions by adding ranking, a queue for scheduling posts, etc
-
Growing Spaces: inviting people to Spaces via links, adding stats to Spaces to motivate admins, letting users request to join Spaces, etc
My role in these projects was as hybrid designer-developer, contributing to all parts of the process from problem-solving to designing solutions to actual implementation in the codebase.
Post-launch projects: Requesting to join, stats, submissions
